Summertime Micro Wedding in the Fingerlakes

Anna and Jay’s Finger Lakes celebration felt like being invited into a day that was completely centered on the people and places that matter most to them.

They had already shared a private ceremony earlier, so this day was all about bringing their friends and family together for a reception at Climbing Bines Brewery in Penn Yan, NY. There was no traditional wedding-day rush or strict timeline, just a relaxed and intentional gathering built around connection and celebration.

We started the afternoon in their hometown of Geneva, NY. Photographing them there added a layer of meaning to the day right away. We walked through familiar streets, stopped when something caught our eye, and let the session unfold naturally. It felt easy and unforced, like spending time with them in a place that already knows their story.

From there, we stopped at Anorah Restaurant and Bar, a local spot owned by close friends of theirs. It was one of those stops that didn’t feel like a “photo location” but more like part of their real life. They grabbed drinks, talked with friends, and settled into the space in a way that made everything feel authentic. Some of the best images from the day came from that time just letting them be present there.

After Geneva, we headed to Climbing Bines Brewery for their reception. The weather was perfect, bright sun and clear skies with that warm Finger Lakes light that we wait all year for.

When we arrived, guests were already settling in and the energy was immediately welcoming. It felt more like a long-awaited gathering than a formal event. We took time for family photos, said hello to their people, and then let the rest of the afternoon unfold without trying to control it too much.

As the day went on, everything naturally shifted into a really comfortable rhythm. People moved between tables and open space, drinks were passed around, and conversations carried across the lawn. It felt easy in the best way, like everyone was exactly where they were supposed to be.

Anna and Jay’s celebration is a reminder that weddings don't need to follow a strict structure to feel complete. When the focus is on people, places, and shared history, everything else falls into place naturally.
